Good god. How long before all the internals explode?

At what RPM? I'd be worried about the internals.

Volkswagen TFSI's are very stout engines. The FSI didn't need any internal engine reinforcement until you're hitting 500 horsepower.

316bhp is nothing for a VW TFSI.

Seriously? That's surprising. How much power do they leave the factory with?

That's imressive if they really can tolerate it. I don't know too much about them.

the MKVII Golf R leaves the factory with 300 horsepower. The MKVI Golf R didn't need any internal strengthening until you're running an APR Stage III+ kit (500ish hp)

Here's the dyno graph (or at least the line art version of a dyno graph).

Wow! I have trouble getting my stock Mk6 power to the pavement with 300 treadwear rubber. 380 ft/lbs will murder anything but drag slicks.

Nice. How much do these cost? If it is a cheap 300 HP, count me in.

Stage 1 usually runs $599 for the 4-cylinder engines, a little less during sales (there is currently an APR sale going until Aug. 3)

That's reasonable. Golfs are now on my CL search.

Keep in mind I'm talking about the newest, Mark VII GTI. APR has tunes for all generations, but the gains won't be as huge.

They seem to take boost well, but what about RPMs?

just like stock, peak horsepower at in the mid 5000's.

GTI's have 235 horsepower (APR's baseline dyno). Golf R's (same engine, different turbo) 300 horsepower.

Yeah, that makes sense. Can the internals be pushed higher? That's astronomically low for a 4 cylinder. VERY few modified engines actually make peak power at the same RPM, unless they're just taking tons and tons of boost.

internals should be good for 500hp. I think valve float is the big issue.

The HP the internals are "good" for is a lot less important than the torque and RPM they can handle.

I just looked it up, the TFSI 2.0 (if I'm looking at the right one) has a 3.65" stroke. That's insane and explains why they don't make power at higher RPMs. There are trucks and muscle cars (in fact, most muscle cars) with lower strokes.

So I imagine that if you bring the RPMs up, even if you slapped some stronger valve springs on to deal with valve float, the pistons would suffer some heavy damage between the boost and the high mean piston speed from the long stroke. Having a high-revving TFSI 2.0 would be like having a supercharged dodge 440, but expecting it to still rev past 7000 rpm. Considering that a 440 has only a .1" longer stroke.

they limit boost in first, it's only full boost from second through sixth and peak RPM is 7100 boosted from 6800
